Education is a major strength of the City of Franklin and Southampton County. A consistently high performing public school system with nationally recognized programs and successful career & technology schools produce a steady stream of skilled, talented young people. An outstanding location provides easy access to world class education institutions including Old Dominion University, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and Norfolk State University. The Paul D. Camp Community College offers a variety of 2-year associates degrees in addition to workforce development programs designed to meet the needs of specific business and industry. Southampton Academy is a coeducational, college-preparatory day school, Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, accredited by the Southern Virginia Association of Independent Schools. Southampton Academy has a total enrollment of approximately 470 students.
